R.B. Hinkle owns and operates a Vermeer T1055 Commander trencher, ideal for use in underground utility work, such as conduit/duct bank installation.
Excavating with a rock trencher is substantially faster than with a hoe-ram/backhoe combination. In addition, the trencher is able to cut through harder material, often eliminating the need for dangerous and expensive blasting. And as an added bonus, while an excavator creates 4–6″ diameter spoil, most of which has to be off-hauled, the rock trencher grinds its spoil into 1–2″ diameter reusable backfill.
